Herman et al reported a questionnaire that can help to identify an adult with undiagnosed diabetes. The authors are from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at CDC.
Groups:
(1) adult from 20 to 44 years old
(2) adult from 45 to 64 years old
(3) adult >= 65 years old
For an adult from 20-44 years old the presence of both of the following indicate risk of diabetes:
(1) increased weight for sex and height (see table below)
(2) little or no exercise during a usual day
For an adult from 45 to 64 years old the presence of one of the following indicates risk of diabetes:
(1) increased weight for sex and height
(2) little or no exercise during a usual day
For an adult >= 65 years old the presence of one of the following:
(1) increased weight for sex and height
(2) history of diabetes in parents or sibling
(3) woman with a baby weighing > 9 lbs.
