Description

A clinicoradiographic scoring system for the diagnosis of congestive heart failure was developed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. This can help decide if long term medication for heart failure can be discontinued in patients who no longer show symptoms of heart failure.

score =

= (points for history) + (points for physical examination) + (points for chest radiography)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 12

• A score > 4 points corresponds to a pulmonary capillary wedge pressure >= 12 mm Hg (sensitivity 90%, specificity 85%).
