The Heart Failure Survival Score (HFSS) can be used to predict the 1 year mortality risk in patients with severe congestive heart failure. This can help in decision making for patients referred for cardiac transplantation.
Two multivariate models developed:
(1) noninvasive: 7 parameters
(2) invasive (noninvasive parameters + mean pulmonary capillary wedge pressure)
Parameter for Models |
Value |
---|---|
ischemic cardiomyopathy |
value 0 if absent, 1 if present |
resting heart rate |
beats per minute |
left ventricular ejection fraction |
percent ( from 0 to 100) |
mean blood pressure |
mm Hg |
intraventricular conduction defect |
value 0 if absent, 1 if present |
peak oxygen consumption |
mL oxygen per kilogram per minute |
serum sodium |
mmol/L |
mean pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), invasive model only |
pressure in mm Hg |
where:
• mean arterial pressure = ((systolic pressure) + (2 * (diastolic pressure))) / 3
