Description

The Rhupus Syndrome is an overlap syndrome between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is uncommon but important to recognize due to its impact on affected patients and its therapeutic needs.


 

A patient with rhupus has clinical and laboratory findings of both RA and SLE.

 

Features of rheumatoid arthritis:

(1) clinical features of rheumatoid arthritis (morning stiffness, symmetrical arthritis, nodules, etc)

(2) erosive arthropathy

(3) presence of rheumatoid factor and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide

 

Features of SLE:

(1) clinical features of SLE (skin rash, photosensitivity, nephritis, etc.)

(2) presence of anti-ds-DNA and anti-Sm
