Description

Hyodo et al reported the Japanese Palliative Oncology Study Prognostic Index (JPOS-PI). This can help to stratify patients with a terminal cancer. The authors are from Tsukuba University, Shizuoka Cancer Center, Kanamecho Hospital (Tokyo) and the National Cancer Center Hospital East (Chiba) in Japan.


 

Patient selection: terminal cancer

(1) physician’s prediction of survival in weeks (clinical prediction of survival , CPS)

(2) level of consciousness

(3) pleural effusion

(4) WBC count

(5) percent lymphocytes in the differential count on the peripheral blood
