When to Screen Patient for Primary Antibody Deficiency

• have no or very little tonsillar tissue?

• failed to thrive as an infant or young child?

• have frequent infections?

• have infections with greater-than-expected severity?

• have infections that fail to respond as expected to appropriate therapy?

• have chronic sinopulmonary, gastrointestinal and/or joint infections that never quite resolve?

• have a fever of unknown origin (FUO)?

• have immune thrombocytopenic purpura, seronegative arthropathy or other autoimmune disease?

• have splenomegaly?

• have depressed gamma globulins on evaluation of total serum proteins?

• fail to have an antibody response following vaccination?

• show a granulomatous inflammatory response to bacteria?
