Mao et al listed criteria for response to therapy for chronic HBeAg-positive viral hepatitis B (HBV). The authors are from Xiamen University in Fujian Province, China.


 

Patient selection: HBeAg-positive HBV

 

Therapy: interferon-alpha

A complete or partial response is considered sustained if still present at 24 weeks after cessation of therapy.

 

If the patient had a response but abnormal findings returned after treatment stopped then it is a relapse (or reinfection).
