Description

Dumesnil et al developed a simple equation for estimating the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). The authors are from the Quebec Heart Institute.

Parameters:

(1) left ventricular end-diastolic volume (using the method of Teichholz et al, based on the short axis inner diameter of the left ventricle in cm at end-diastole)

(2) left ventricular outflow tract diameter in cm

(3) left ventricular subvalvular velocity time integral (VTI1) in cm

stroke volume =

= PI() * (((left ventricular outflow tract diameter) / 2)^2) * (left ventricular subvalvular velocity time integral)

left ventricular ejection fraction =

= (stroke volume) / (left ventricular end-diastolic volume) * 100%
