Sutherland et al developed an ulcerative colitis disease activity index (UCDAI). This can be used to monitor a patient over time. The patients are from the University of Calgary in Canada.
The UCDAI is similar to the Mayo score, except that the wording for the endoscopic appearance differ. Both the UCDAI and Mayo score are similar to the Feagan score, which replaces the endoscopic appearance with a patient's report of well-being.
Patient selection: patient with ulcerative colitis
Parameters:
(1) stool frequency
(2) rectal bleeding
(3) mucosal appearance on endoscopy
(4) physician's global assessment of disease activity

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 12
• The higher the score the greater the disease activity.
