Description

Levy et al identified a number of factors associated with a worse prognosis for a patient with Goodpasture's disease. The authors are from the Imperial College of Medicine, Hammersmith Hospital, University of Edinburgh, Royal Infirmary at Edinburgh, and the University of Aberdeen.

Factors associated with a worse prognosis for a patient presenting with Goodpasture's disease:

(1) need for immediate dialysis

(2) 100% crescents on renal biopsy

Additional factors at presentation that may impact prognosis:

(1) oliguria

(2) advanced fibrosis or > 50% crescents on renal biopsy

(3) serum creatinine > 5.7 mg/dL (> 500 µmol/L, or severe renal failure)
