Description

Livneh et al simplified the criteria they had initially developed for the diagnosis of Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF). The authors are from Sheba Medical Center and Tel Aviv University in Israel.


 

Major criteria:

(1) typical attack with generalized peritonitis

(2) typical attack with unilateral pleuritis

(3) typical attack with pericarditis

(4) typical attack with monoarthritis of hip, knee or ankle

(5) typical attack with fever alone

(6) incomplete attack involving the abdomen

 

Minor criteria:

(1) incomplete attack involving chest or single joint or both

(2) exertional leg pain

(3) favorable response to therapeutic trial of colchicine

 

where:

• An incomplete attack involving chest and joint is counted as 2 minor criteria.

 

Diagnosis of FMF:

(1) one or more major criteria

(2) 2 or more minor criteria
