Description

Criteria for the diagnosis of Kawasaki Syndrome were proposed at an International Consensus Conference held at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.


Lesion: vasculitis predominantly of medium-sized arteries

Common findings:

(1) usually occurs in children

(2) mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome

(3) involvement of the coronary arteries

 

Other forms of small vessel vasculitis are distinguished by:

(1) absence of mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome

(2) involvement of venules, capillaries and arterioles

(3) presence of glomerulonephritis
