Description

Nguyen et al developed the READMITS score to identify a high-risk patient with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas.

Patient selection: adult with AMI

Outcome: 30-day readmission

Parameters during first 24 hours in hospital:

(1) serum creatinine in mg/dL

(2) serum BNP or NT-proBNP

(3) age per decade after 18 years of age

(4) history of diabetes mellitus

(5) sex

(6) timely PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention within the first 24 hours)

(7) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: around 33 (dependent on age)

• The higher the score the greater the risk of readmission.
