Description

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) developed a formula that adjusts a drug concentration in dilute urine to a level that would be seen if the urine had a normal specific gravity. The formula was developed for tests measuring anabolic steroids but can be used for other drugs.

Specimen selection: specific gravity 1.001 to 1.004 (1.000 would indicate water)

Parameters:

(1) specific gravity of urine specimen

(2) concentration of the drug in urine in ng/mL (= mg/L)

estimated drug concentration in ng/mL if the urine had a specific gravity 1.020 =

= (1.020 - 1.000) / ((specific gravity of urine sample) - 1.000) * (urine drug concentration)
