Description

The six minute walk distance (6MWD, six minute walk test) is may be done for functional assessment, determination of prognosis or effectiveness of therapy.


 

The 6MWD may be of used to evaluate patients with:

(1) congestive heart failure (CHF)

(2) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

(3) pulmonary hypertension

(4) cystic fibrosis

(5) advanced age

(6) peripheral arterial disease (PAD)

 

The 6MWD may be done before and monitored after:

(1) lung transplantation

(2) lung resection including volume reduction surgery

(3) pulmonary rehabilitation

(4) cardiac transplantation

(5) peripheral revascularization surgery
