The response to therapy of HIV-infected patients with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) can be assessed using a severity score based on clinical findings.
Patient selection:
(1) Diagnosis of pneumocystis pneumonia made on bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL).
(2) Patients with severe pneumonia (PaO2 < 50 mm Hg) were excluded.
(3) Interval for determining survival: 45 days
