Milan Criteria Liver Transplantation

Purpose: To determine if a patient with cirrhosis and unresectable hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) is a candidate for liver transplanation by the Milan criteria.

Description

Mazzaferro et al listed criteria for when to select a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma arising from cirrhosis for liver transplant. The authors are from the University of Milan.


 

Patient selection: cirrhosis with unresectable, early stage hepatocellular carcinoma (and presumably an absence of metastatic disease)
