Description

The Framingham Heart Study Coronary Heart Disease Risk Prediction Chart is one mechanism of using the Framingham data to give a risk assessment for the individual patient. It is based on the summation of points assigned by lookup of risk factors from tables, avoiding the more complex calculations used by other approaches.

Tables:

(1) age and gender

(2) total cholesterol in mg/dL

(3) HDL cholesterol in mg/dL

(4) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(5) other risk factors (cigarette smoking, diabetes mellitus, left ventricular hypertrophy)

total score for all risk factors =

= (points for age and sex) + (points for total cholesterol) + (points for HDL cholesterol) + (points for systolic blood pressure) + (points for other factors)

Interpretation:

• minimum score for women is -24, for men -14

• maximum score for women is 49, for men 54
