James developed equations for predicting the lean body mass of a person based on that person's body weight and height.
Populations: This apparently applies for neonates, children and adults.
For males:
lean body mass in kilograms =
= (1.10 * (body weight in kilograms)) – (128 * ((body weight in kilograms)^2) / ((body height in cm)^2)) =
For females:
= (1.07 * (body weight in kilograms)) – (148 * ((body weight in kilograms)^2) / ((body height in cm)^2))
Limitations:
• I am not sure how accurate this is for a person at the extremes of weight (cachectic vs obese).

Purpose: To estimate the lean body mass in adults from gender, height and weight using the method of Hume.
