Description

Rule et al developed a series of equations for estimating the glomerular filtration rate for a patient with chronic kidney disease. Two of these equations are based on the serum cystatin C. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Patient selection: adult

Parameters:

(1) serum cystatin C in mg/L

For a patient with a native kidney:

estimated GFR in mL per min per 1.73 square meter BSA =

= 66.8 / ((cystatin C)^1.3)

For a patient with a transplanted kidney:

estimated GFR in mL per min per 1.73 square meter BSA =

= 76.6 / ((cystatin C)^1.16)
