Description

The Copenhagen Psoriasis Severity Index (CPSI) can be used to evaluate a patient with psoriasis. It can be used to monitor the extent and severity of disease over time. The authors are from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, University of Leicester, Probity Medical Research (Waterloo, Ontario) and the Copenhagen Psoriasis Working Group.

Sites evaluated:

(1) face

(2) scalp

(3) upper limbs proximal to wrists

(4) hands and wrists

(5) chest and abdomen

(6) back

(7) buttocks and sacral area

(8) genitalia

(9) lower extremities proximal to ankles

(10) ankles and feet

Parameters in the evaluation:

(1) erythema

(2) plaque thickness

(3) scaling

subscore for each site =

= SUM(points for all 3 parameters)

CPSI =

= SUM(subscores for all 10 sites)

Interpretation:

• minimum subscore: 0

• maximum subscore: 9

• minimum CPSI: 0

• maximum CPSI: 90

• The higher the CPSI the more severe the psoriasis.

Performance:

• The CPSI is reproducible with substantial interrater and intrarater reliability.

• The CPSI is able to distinguish between milder cases of psoriasis.

• The CPSI does not require the need to estimate percentage of skin involvement.
