Purpose: To evaluate a patient with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) using the BARD score of Harrison et al.

Description

Harrison et al reported the BARD score for the evaluation of patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver diseaes (NAFLD). It can help to identify patients with advanced liver fibrosis. The authors are from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and Saint Louis University.

Outcome: significant hepatic fibrosis

 

BARD is an acronym for:

(3) type 2 diabetes (T)

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 4

• A score >= 2 was associated with significant hepatic fibrosis (Stage 3 or 4).

 

Performance:

• The negative predictive value was 0.96.

• The area under the ROC curve was 0.81.
