Description

Some people exposed to nitroglycerin may develop a withdrawal reaction following a discontinuation of the exposure.

Patient selection: person with history of a prolonged, continuous exposure to nitroglycerin. The exposure may be due to medical therapy or occupational exposure

The main finding is chest pain or sudden cardiac arrest. This is associated with vasospasm of the coronary artery, which can result in myocardial infarction even in the absence of occlusive coronary artery disease.

The symptoms reverse on exposure to nitroglycerin or other organic nitrate.
