Description

The Adult Self-Report Screener is a brief instrument can be used to screen adults for the Attention Deficit Disorder. It is a subset of the 18 question Adult ADHD Self Report Scale. The instrument was developed by Adler et al at the New York University Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO).


 

Patient selection: adults over the age of 18

 

The instrument consists of 6 questions.

(1) difficulty completing final details of a project

(2) difficulty getting things in order for a task that requires organization

(3) difficulty remembering appointments or obligations

(4) avoid or delay getting started on a project that requires a lot of thought

(5) fidget or squirm when sitting for a long time

(6) feel overly active and compelled to do things ("driven by a motor")

Tallies:

(1) number of items in #1 to #3 with responses >=2 (sometimes, often, more often)

(2) number of items in #4 to #6 with responses >= 3 (often or very often)

 

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 24

• The higher the score the more likely that ADD is present.

• Further testing for adult ADD/ADHD is warranted when:

 

(number of items in #1 to #3 >=2) + (number of items in #4 to #6 >=3) >= 4
