Description

A patient presenting with certain clinical and radiologic findings should be evaluated for malignant lymphoma.


 

A patient should be referred for evaluation if there is persistent lymphadenopathy with:

(1) lymph nodes that are firm-to-hard and non-tender

(2) lymph nodes > 2 cm in diameter

(3) lymph nodes that continue to get larger

(4) lymph nodes that are enlarged with no explanation (infection, skin lesion, etc)

(5) hepatosplenomegaly

(6) shortness of breath that does not respond to bronchodilators

(7) presence of a mediastinal or hilar mass on chest X-ray

(8) "B" symptoms (pruritis, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, fatigue)
