A vandal may interfere with a visible warning sign in a number of ways. The consequences may range from minimal to extremely serious.
Things that a vandal may do:
(1) steal or remove the sign
(2) switch signs around
(3) knock the sign over or off its support
(4) physically damage the sign (including shooting or hammering)
(5) obscure with paint, mud or stickers
(6) “fix” wording
(7) display other messages
An industry has emerged to protect signage by providing:
(1) a secure mount or an anchored base
(2) a cover
(3) paint resistant coating
