Liu et al reported the waist circumference to body mass index ratio as a prognostic tool for an obese adult. The authors are from Guangzhou Academy of Medical Science in China.

(1) waist circumference in cm

(2) body mass index (BMI) in kilograms per square meter

= (waist circumference) / (body mass index)

 

Interpretation:

• Overall mortality and cardiovascular mortality increase as the ratio increases.
