Von Meyenburg described bile duct hamartomas of the liver.
The von Meyenburg complex consists a cluster of benign duct-like structures in a fibrous stroma forming a small cystic nodule. A nodule may range from microscopic or up to 1.5 cm in diameter.
The number can range from 1 to many.
The lesions are often incidental findings. However, multiple lesions may be mistaken for metastatic carcinoma.
Complications are rare and may include:
(1) portal hypertension
(2) cholangiocarcinoma
