The Volume-Time Index (VTI) is a prognostic finding associated with peritoneal metastases from colorectal carcinoma. The authors are from St. George Hospital (Australia), University of New South Wales, University of Notre Dame (Sydney) and Al-Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Ismalic University.
Patient selection: peritoneal metastases from a colorectal carcinoma
Parameters:
(1) peritoneal cancer index (PCI), from 0 to 39
(2) time since primary tumor resection in months
volume time index =
= (peritoneal cancer index) / (time since primary tumor resection)
Interpretation:
• A score >= 1 is considered high and is associated with a more aggressive tumor and worse outcome. The hazard ratio for overall survival was 3.2.
