Description

Eyeballing is a means of absorbing alcohol through the mucous membranes of the eye socket. This is an example of a "challenge" that spreads over social media.

Method: The person places the mouth of an open bottle of liquor against the eyeball.

The amount of alcohol absorbed is low.

Issues:

(1) type of liquor used (additives may have unexpected effects)

(2) proof of the liquor (the higher the alcohol content the greater the injury)

(3) level of intoxication at the time of the attempt

(4) any debris in the bottle

Complications:

(1) corneal abrasion and scarring

(2) infection

(3) chemical conjunctivitis with pain and burning

(4) angiogenesis

(5) loss of vision
