Description

The European Task Force reported the Vitiligo European Task Force (VETF) assessment.

Patient selection: vitiligo

Sections for the assessment:

(1) area involved

(2) staging

(3) spreading

(1) Area involved, which can be used by counting the number of hands (palm and fingers) each of which represents 1% of body surface area (BSA)

Areas scored:

(1) head and neck (9% BSA)

(2) anterior torso (18% BSA)

(3) posterior torso (18% BSA)

(4) left arm (9% BSA)

(5) right arm (9% BSA)

(6) left leg (18% BSA)

(7) right leg (18% BSA)

(8) genitals and perineum (1%)

subscore for an area =

= (percent of the area involved) * (percent of BSA for area)

(2) Staging (using magnifying lens and a Wood's lamp) based on largest patch in the area:

Areas scored:

(1) head and neck

(2) trunk

(3) arms

(4) legs

(5) hands and feet

Appearance

Stage

normal pigmentation

0

incomplete pigmentation

1

complete depigmentation

2

partial hair weightening (more than a few, < 30%)

3

complete hair weightening

4

total score for staging =

= SUM(stages for all 5 areas)

(3) Spreading based on largest patch in the area under natural light and Wood's lamp illumination:

Areas scored:

(1) head and neck

(2) trunk

(3) arms

(4) legs

(5) hands and feet

Appearance

Spreading

regressing (repigmentation)

-1

similar patch limits

0

progressing (depigmentation)

+1

total score for staging =

= SUM(stages for all 5 areas)

Interpretation:

• minimum area: 0%

• maximum area: 100%

• minimum stage: 0

• maximum stage: 20

• minimum spreading: -5

• maximum spreading: +5
