Description

The Vitals Risk Index (VRI) is an early warning score for pediatric patients. The authors are from the Nationwide Children's Hospital and Ohio State University in Columbus.

Patient selection: pediatric pateint

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) heart rate in beats per minute

(3) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(4) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(5) temperature in °F

(6) oxygen saturation in percent

(7) supplemental oxygen (oxygen flow rate or FIO2)

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 100

The higher the VRI the worse the patient's condition.

Performance:

The area under the ROC curve is 0.76.
