Description

Simich et al reported tools to screen for human trafficking. Chisolm-Straker et al used a subset of the items to rapidly screen for trafficking.


Domains in trafficking:

(1) labor

(2) harm

(3) sexual exploitation

(4) isolation

(5) force, fraud or coercion

 

Labor:

(1) forced to do work that is unsafe or dangerous

(2) ever worked without getting the expected payment

(3) expected payment withheld or controlled; money withheld by employer for food, rent or other expenses

(4) ever worked where work was different than expected

 

Harm:

(1) anyone at workplace make you feel scared or unsafe; ever harmed or threatened at work

(2) threats of harm to family or friends

(3) ever injured on job

(4) ever forced to work

 

Sexual exploitation

(1) tricked or forced to do something you did not want to

(2) pressure to touch or to have sexual contact

(3) have sex for things of value or paid for sex

(4) anyone put your photo on the internet

 

Isolation

(1) identification papers taken and controlled

(2) doors and windows locked

(3) contact with others controlled and restricted

(4) unable to leave the place where you worked or lived (trapped)

 

Force, fraud, coercion

(1) pressured to do anything to pay back money

(2) not allowed to take breaks at work

(3) ever told to lie about your age or work you did

(4) food and sleep controlled
