Description

Bohn et al described the ventilatory index in neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia and correlated it to the PaCO2. This can help stratify infants by mortality risk. The authors are from the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto in Canada.

Parameters:

(1) ventilatory index before surgical repair

(2) PaCO2 mm Hg

ventilatory index =

= (mean airway pressure in cm H2O) * (respiratory rate in breaths per minute)
