Description

Vascular lesions of the penis usually are benign but malignant vascular tumors can occur.

Types of benign vascular lesions:

(1) hemangioma, including pyogenic granuloma

(2) venous malformation

(2a) arterial or arteriovenous ("fast flow"), including glomus tumor

(2b) venous, lymphatic and/or capillary ("slow flow")

(3) other benign (Fordyce angiokeratoma, angiocentric myofibroblastic tumor, etc)

"Fast flow" malformations tend to enlarge slowly with time.

A pyogenic granuloma is usually associated with chronic irritation or trauma.

Glomus tumors need to be completely excised but many other benign lesions can be treated with lasers.

Malignant vascular tumors may include:

(1) Kaposi sarcoma

(2) angiosarcoma
