Description

Injection of cosmetic filler into tissues of the face may be associated with serious complications. The risk is greatest when injections are made into one of the vascular danger zones.

Vascular danger zones of the head and neck:

(1) temporal region (superficial temporal artery)

(2) glabella

(3) nasal triangle (danger zone of the face)

(3a) nasolabial folds (facial artery)

(3b) periosteum layer in tear-trough correction

(4) infraorbital region (above the periosteum on the zygomatic arch)

(5) lips (upper lip within danger zone of the face)

(6) chin

The use of imaging techniques to visualize vessels during injections can improve safety.
