Description

DiGeorge Syndrome may be associated with immunodeficiency. During a primary Varicella Zoster infection (chickenpox) there may be disseminated disease to include the appendix.


Patient selection: DiGeorge or other immunodeficiency syndrome, primary chickenpox infection

 

Clinical features:

(1) prolonged duration of the chickenpox

(2) right lower quadrant pain

(3) clinical evidence of appendicitis

(4) PCR or other evidence of Varicella Zoster in appendiceal tissue
