Description

Steel wool can be used in rodent control.

Coarse steel wool can be used to plug up rodents holes and burrows. A ball or roll is made then placed in the opening. It should fit snugly and not be easily displaced by pushing.

Gloves may be needed to avoid metal splinters.

Effects:

(1) A rodent trying to gnaw through the steel wool will get painful steel splinters in the mouth and tongue.

(2) Any steel wool that is swallowed may perforate the intestines, causing death.

Advantages: steel wool is cheap and readily available

Disadvantages: A rodent who dies inside a dwelling may smell badly.
