Description

Ramer et al used p63 immunostaining and tumor stage to predict prognosis for a patient with an adenoid cystic carcinoma arising in a salivary gland. These findings can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Tisch Cancer Institute, and Rambam Medical Center (Haifa).

• Criteria for low and high stage was not found in the text. The above separation is based on the numbers shown for each stage on page 79 (right column top) and in Figure 5 page 81.

= (points for stage) + (points for p63 staining)

Interpreation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 2

• The higher the score the worse the prognosis.
