Testing for perinuclear antineutrophilc cytoplasmic autoantibodies (pANCA) and antibodies to Saccharomyces cerevisiae mannan (SCM) can be helpful in diagnosing idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Limitations:
• About a third of each category will test negative for its “target” antibody.
• About 10% of each category will test positive for the “target” antibody for the other category..
• Disease activity will impact the intensity of the immune response.
• Thus the results are supportive of a diagnosis but must be used in context with other findings.
