LipoClear is a product that can allows for measurement of most chemistry tests in a lipemic specimen.
Analytes that cannot be done after LipoClear:
(1) lipid studies
(2) coagulation tests
(3) monoclonal protein
LipoClear comes as a liquid. All results must be multiplied to compensate for dilution.
actual analytical concentration =
= 1.2 * (measured concentration)
Exceptions:
(1) Total protein should be increased a further 0.6 g/dL (range 0.4 to 0.8) due to the loss of lipoproteins.
(2) Each electrolyte must be adjusted using a factor based on the electrolyte and the analytical system.
(3) Phosphorus may be increased spuriously by 10% in some analytical systems. The correction factor for the measured concentration in this case should be 1.09 (with 1.09 * 1.10 = 1.20).
