Updated Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) Staging Classification

There have been slight modifications to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) classification over time.

Patient selection: hepatocellular carcinoma

Parameters:

(1) Child-Pugh classification

(2) ECOG performance status (or Performance Status Test)

(3) tumor status

Child-Pugh	ECOG PS	Tumor Status	BCLC Stage
A	0	1 tumor < 2 cm	Stage 0, very early, carcinoma in situ
A or B	0	<= 3 tumors all <= 3 cm	Stage A, early
A or B	0	multinodular	Stage B, intermediate
A or B	1 or 2	vascular invasion, N1, or M1	Stage C, advanced
C	3 or 4	NA	Stage D, terminal

where:

• Multinodular is probably > 3 tumors or any > 3 cm.
