Description

Bradbury et al identified risk factors associated with unintentional injuries in school-aged children. These can help identify children who may benefit from interventions to reduce injuries. The authors are from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the Johns Hopkins University.

Patient selection: school aged (5 to 11 years)

Risk factors for unintentional injuries:

(1) younger age

(2) more children at home

(3) behavior problems

(4) greater social competence

(5) health problems, recent illness

(6) maternal anxiety

The more risk factors that are present, the greater the risk for unintentional injury.
