Description

Steam that is specially heated can become superheated steam.

Type of Steam

Components

wet or unsaturated steam

vapor contains water droplets

saturated steam

hot enough for all of the water droplets to have evaporated, with the system in vapor-liquid equilibrium

dry saturated steam

saturated steam that is slightly superheated

superheated steam

saturated steam that is at a temperature greater than the vaporization point at a given pressure

Features of superheated steam:

(1) dry

(2) tremendous internal energy

(3) able to release energy while being above the condensation temperature for water
