Anterior encephaloceles are rare neural tube defects that may present as a mass. Imaging studies have made it easier to determine the anatomic extent.

More common types of anterior encephaloceles:

(1) frontoethmoidal (sincipital)

(1a) nasofrontal

(1b) nasoethmoidal

(1c) naso-orbital

(2) orbital
