The TURN and TURNP scores are simple scores for predicting symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage following intravenous thrombolysis for ischemic stroke. The authors are from Yale University and Taipei Medical University.
TURN = thrombolysis risk using mRS and NIHSS
Patient selection: IV thrombolysis for an ischemic stroke
Outcome: symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage
Parameters:
(1) prestroke modified Rankin score (mRS)
(2) baseline NIH stroke scale
(3) platelet count in 10^9/L

TURNP score =
= SUM(points for parameters) - 2.346
probability of symptomatic ICH =
= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * (TURNP score)))
TURN score =
= SUM(points for parameters) - 4.648
probability of symptomatic ICH =
= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * (TURN score)))
In addition to prediction of intracerebral hemorrhage, the TURN score also predicts 90-day outcome.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve for the TURNP score is 0.78.
• The area under the ROC curve for the TURN score is 0.74.
