Description

The Ewing Sarcoma Breakpoint Region 1 (EWSR1) translocation can be found in a number of sarcomas. It is usually detected by FISH.

Tumors positive for EWSR1 include:

(1) Ewing sarcoma or other primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET)

(2) angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma

(3) myoepithelioma of soft tissue

(4) clear cell sarcoma

(5) myxoid liposarcoma

(6) extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma

(7) desmoplastic round cell tumor

(8) malignant round cell tumor of bone

EWSR1 creates fusion products with other "partners":

(1) FLI1 or other member of the E26 transformation-specific (ETS) family

(2) NFATC2 (nuclear factor of activated T cells, cytoplasmic, calcineurin-dependent 2)
