Pseudoresponse is an artifact seen on imaging studies.
Occurrence: therapy with anti-VEGF, anti-angiogenic agents
Tumors affected: brain tumors
Features:
(1) Therapy causes a change in vascular permeability at the tumor site.
(2) This causes a reduction in the degree of enhancement by the tumor on contrast studies.
(3) There may be a reduction in the surrounding edema on FLAIR (fluid-attenuated inversion recovery).
(4) The tumor has not responded to the level suggested by the imaging studies.
(5) There may be a rebound in enhancement and/or edema later.
Differential diagnosis:
(1) true response to therapy
