Description

The tumor doubling time (TDT) for a uveal melanoma may be different between the primary site and a metastasis.

Estimates of the median doubling time ranges from 30 to 350 days.

Parameters:

(1) volume of the initial tumor in cubic millimeters

(2) volume on follow-up in cubic millimeters

(3) number of years between the two volume measurements

(follow-up volume) / (initial volume) =

= 2^(number of doubling times)

number of doubling times =

= LOG10(ratio of volumes) / LOG10(2) =

= LOG10(ratio of volumes) / 0.301

doubling time in years =

= (time interval between measurements) / (number of doubling times)

where:

An assumption is that the tumor growth rate is constant.
