Tubular Ectasia of the Rete Testis (TERT) is a benign lesion of the testis with cystic duct ectasia.
Features of TERT:
(1) The lesion is in the rete testis (intra-testicular region outgoing from the testicular hilum).
(2) It shows numerous tight and anechoic lesions usually measuring 3 mm in diameter.
(3) It usually has an onset after age 53 years.
(4) It may be bilateral.
On ultrasonography there is cystic enlargement of numerous canaliculi of the rete testis.
Differential diagnosis:
(1) cystic teratoma
(2) cystic dysplasia of the rete testis
(3) simple testicular cyst
(4) cysts of the tunica albuginea
(5) epidermoid cyst
